Alex Horsbrugh-Porter (Associate) obtained a Degree in Politics
and Economics from Birmingham University, and completed his Law
Finals at the Royal College of Law, Guildford. He completed his
training contract at the London law firm Davies Arnold Cooper qualifying
in 1998. He then spent two years in the firm’s commercial
litigation department specialising in insurance related matters.
Alex then moved to the City of London law firm Ince & Co. where
he was involved on a number of major commercial and international
trade disputes. He also worked on several insolvency disputes.
Alex joined Ritch & Conolly’s litigation department
in 2004. He specialises in insolvency disputes and restructuring
work as well as general commercial litigation. He has recently
been accredited as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner which allows
him to act as a Liquidator, Administrator, Administrative Receiver,
or Supervisor of companies in the U.K. as well as Trustee in Bankruptcy
of individual debtors.
Alex is a member of INSOL, the Association of Business Recovery
Professionals and the Insolvency Practitioners' Association (U.K.).
He currently advises the Joint Official Liquidator's of the 22
Sphinx Hedge Funds which are liquidation in Cayman. This involves
providing advice on all aspects of the liquidation process and
the prospective litigation. Alex has also recently advised the
Liquidators of the Philadelphia Asset Fund Ltd another fund company
in liquidation in Cayman.
He is involved in advising on a multi-million dollar fraud perpetuated
in the US which involved tracing assets into Cayman and issuing
a proprietary claim in the jurisdiction. The various interlocutory
applications included: Norwich Pharmacal and Banker's Trust relief,
Freezing Orders, applications involving conflict of laws issues,
the appointment of a Receiver and Contempt of Court applications
as well as appearing in the Court of Appeal.
Alex has given presentations on insolvency issues to several
large accountancy firms and written articles for INSOL.
