Alex Horsbrugh-Porter (Partner) obtained a Degree in Politics
and Economics from Birmingham University, and completed his Law
Finals at the Royal College of Law, Guildford. He completed his
training contract at the London law firm Davies Arnold Cooper qualifying
in 1998. He then spent two years in the firm’s commercial
litigation department specialising in insurance related matters.
Alex then moved to the City of London law firm Ince & Co. where
he was involved on a number of major commercial and international
trade disputes. He also worked on several insolvency disputes.
Alex joined Ritch & Conolly’s litigation department
in 2004. He specialises in insolvency disputes and restructuring
work as well as general commercial litigation. He has recently
been accredited as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner which allows
him to act as a Liquidator, Administrator, Administrative Receiver,
or Supervisor of companies in the U.K. as well as Trustee in Bankruptcy
of individual debtors.
Alex is a member of INSOL, the Association of Business Recovery
Professionals and the Insolvency Practitioners' Association (U.K.).
His advisory roles include acting for the Joint Official Liquidators of the 22 Sphinx Hedge Funds and the Liquidators of the DD Master Premium Fund. He has also advised in a significant cross border asset tracing matter in which a proprietary claim was successfully brought in the Islands on behalf of the firm's client. These latter proceedings included several complex
interlocutory applications, the obtaining of asset freezing orders, the determining of conflict of laws issues, the appointment of a Receiver, the bringing of a contempt of court application and appearing in the Court of Appeal.
Alex has given presentations on insolvency issues to several
large accountancy firms and written articles for INSOL.
